2012 - I had Vertical Sleeve Gastric Surgery in October 2012, and this is my journey to push the fat girl aside and start living life without fear of lawn chairs, the middle seat, clothing shops and high heels. Among other things.

2017 - I'm preop for the Duodenal Switch procedure for my sleeve to help me get to goal weight....and to fix another hiatal hernia.

June - Total Lost - 0lbs
Overall Lost  - 64.6lbs

This one hurts. I'm going to have to change my tracker from 67lost to 64 lost.  :(   Let that be a lesson to me!!

I would say that June was full of compliance and excuses.  Once I started back on my water, I saw some change.  As well - I stated back to the gym again. Always a good thing.

Despite this lull in progress, I'm quietly enthusiastic about June.   I have my 2 week trip to Iceland starting on the 28th.  This time I am at a weight were Iam allowed to ride the Icelandic horses!!!  So I'm super enthused about that.  As well as all the rest of the walking and hiking that we will be doing.  I can't wait.

June at work is going to suck. But... I've decided that no matter what. I'm getting my water in.  That is the MINIMUM that I will do for myself.

Another boring monthly update, but... it comes and goes in swings.

Well, I really let that one go at the end here.  There must be a correlation between me setting a goal and me FAILING in the complete opposite direction of said goal.  I literally gained for six straight days the day after I said I wanted to see 229 on the scale this month.

Expecting things of myself is dangerous apparently.   Honestly, just wandering along being happy with what I’m doing is much better.

Of course, I also let go the triad of evil:

1.       Stopped drinking enough water
2.       Stopped tracking my food
3.       Started eating out more

Accompanied with poor sleep, work stress, and a general lack of self-control and boom.  Back up in the mid/high 230’s.

I also had a lot of poor self-talk – the old ugly “YOU DESERVE THESE TREATS” reared its head. Nothing good ever comes from that.

So, its back on the wagon.  I’ve not started tracking food yet, but I’m taking steps and gawds knows, if I set anything too high I’m just going to lay down and not get anywhere.  Step one has been – TAKE A DAMN LUNCH.  Which I’ve done, but I already had a snickers bar today.  *SIGH*

Also – get on top of water.  I’ve had puffy swollen feet for half a month now.  It’s all because I’m down on my water and my body is suffering from it.

Today’s REAL emergency was I took a shirt off the hanger to wear to work today... and put it back because it was slightly tight at the start of the month – I couldn’t even bear to try it on and see how my belly has filled in again.  Damn it – 2lbs does really make a difference.

Time to get back on track.

March Monthly Recap 2014

March is done... hard to believe!

This has been an amazing month for me for success, however this morning’s weigh in was slightly up. HOWEVER, I'm going to NOT let it bother me, as I didn't sleep well last night, had a late dinner, and get my morning constitutional in before weigh in.

In March I had 6 "new lows" recorded!  I couldn't be happier that I ended the month on one of those too.  234 is the lowest month end recorded weigh-in thus far.

Happy Dance.

Total lbs lost in March: 2.8lbs
Total lbs lost overall: 67lbs

I’ve been sick, had gallbladder surgery, root canal, and have not done any working out - but I also spent almost all of March recording everything that I ate on the MFP ap, and thinking about getting in more and more water and eating a lot of protein.

The ap has really made a difference in my awareness to what I’m eating.  I still have treats, I still splurge on things, but just less frequently… AND I’m aware of them so I don't just indulge indulge indulge - which has been a big issue for me.

The NSV's this month:

1. bought regular size 18 pants in a regular women's department!  Almost into the 16's.
2. Solid size 16 up top/XL regular and the occasional L
3. new bras - 38DD
4. Went to a clothing swap yesterday. Actually fit into a couple of things!!  It was pretty awesome.

Not a very long post this morning, as I have work to get to, but I certainly am excited about my progress and looking forward to continued success in April.

September has FLOWN by, and I seriously can't believe that this month is over.

As you can see, I'm still struggling in the 238 region.   I spent some time this morning reading over my previous monthly posts and reflecting.  I have to make some changes, they are going to happen, but as usual - life is a big excuse for me.

However, things are on the up and up:
  • The house s 95% done for cleaning, painting, rennos and I've not got a lot more task to get done. Light painting, hanging more pictures. Easy stuff.
  • The garage apt is 95% done and we have it rented out.  The tenant is coming over tonight to get key, drop off a check and she is moving in next weekend.
  • Work is going well - its busy (but its never not going to be), however I've just passed the 6 month mark there and things are starting to get easier.  I'm more familiar with the role, the duties and the processes.  That feels good.
  • I'm 60+ pounds lighter than I was last year... and it is coming up on a year next month.  I've not spent much time thinking about all the great things that I've accomplished, how much better my life is and focusing on the good.  Which I'm going to do.
As to This month:

There were some improvements that need to be noted:
  1. I tried on my leather boots and got one more button done up on the side! YAY!
  2. I bought a shirt at Old Navy that was.... A LARGE!!!!  LARGE!  woot
  3. My bras are all on the tightest set of loops. Time to get a few new ones of those too.  That will mean that I'm back into a 38inch band.
  4. We had friends over that hadn't seem me in a year and they were shocked/impressed.
  5. All my pants are getting too baggy, but I'm going to wait another month for "winter" to get some new ones.
  6. I bought some new shoes this weekend as well, and was back down a 1/2 size to a full size.  Which is great, because I was up to a tight 11, and now I have a few 10's and 10.5's that are fitting.
  7. I made and packed up lunches for this week, getting in my protein and water.

Goals:
I purchased a yoga-mat yesterday. This is my goal for October is to get up every morning and do 10 - 30 situps and pushups. Every morning. Roll out, get on the mat. Nude if I have to, and do crunches and pushups until I can't anymore.

My other goal this month is to get to bed before midnight. There is no way that I'll be able to get out of bed to do said pushups if I am not getting at least 7 - 8 hour of sleep. So... the TV is going to have to be given a break.

Okay.  Thats it!  11 months in, October 15th will be one year since my surgery and all those amazing changes... but I'll wait until next month to talk about those!  :)

Happy Monday!

This month has not been great for eating and water. I have been overindulging in snacks, sodas (in limited, but regular quanities) and I’ve been giving myself a lot of excuses that I like to use to make myself feel better about it.  I also had some very strange period activity – which was stress related (it was 8 days late and stayed for 4 days longer than usual – not preggers!).

I was “hoping” that I would break into the lower 230’s this last month, but hoping is not going to get me there. Moving more, eating right, and drinking my water is going to get me there.  Hoping is going to get me wallowing around at the same weight I am right now thinking about my smaller clothes and how much I want to wear them, while I eat on the sofa and watch BBC America and HGTV.  Not good.

Lots of change happened externally this month.

Kitchen renno completed
House painted
Moved in
Unpacking
Budget season (Yuck!!)
This last weekend I spent a good 3 hours a day up in the garage apt cleaning, scrubbing and washing it out.

Things are going to settle down, and the Houston summer heat is starting to die down a little.  Soon I’ll be happily working in the yard and drinking my coffee on the veranda in the mornings.  I can’t wait.

I do feel that my life right now is running from one fire to the next in a panic. Stomping it out to a manageable level – then running to the next fire and stomping on it, only to have to move onto the next fire and then back to  the first one again.   Spinning my wheels I guess.   I know that I need to start adding in exercise to my life, but I’m not making time for it.  There is time for it – but I’m not getting it onto my priority list.  That has to change.

I have to do more than say I need to change. I need to actually make change happen.  I need to find a way to do that. I’m not partially positive about it happening in this moment. But.. I still want to say I need to do it, so that one day… I actually will.

YOU NEED TO MAKE CHANGES

Okay, back to my regularly scheduled update.

Progress is still being made.  My weight hasn’t changed too much (Zero balance for the month), but my clothing is fitting differently.  My smaller clothes are starting to slip on easier, I made it into my goal jacket from 3 years ago! And my regularly worn clothes are starting to look downright baggy.

Baby steps.

Right, speaking of – work is still a priority – as a short week is really a work deferral program and I have a lot of stuff to catch up on. Starting with the 40 emails that came in while I was out at lunch.

This month I stopped "coasting" with food.  I'm on a bounce up at the moment, but I've been struggling with sleep and water the last few days (as the husband was on call this week and was up every morning at 2 - 4 on the phone and laptop, so I was not getting good sleep).

However, I have renewed my efforts with food. I had been eating because, well... because I could. Not because I was hungry or that I hadn't had any food for 5 hours... I was eating because food fit in there.  Which, is not the way to use the sleeve.  It will hold whatever you stick in there.

I was happy to start seeing more numbers in the 230's.  It has given me a renewed sense of purpose.

I had my nine month check up with my surgeon.  He wasn't "disappointed" but he wasn't pleased either. And judging by the number of excuses that cam involuntarily shooting out of my mouth, neither am I.

I also turned 39 this month, and was at 236.6.  A bare 3lbs away from my college weight!!  A massive realization for me.  That... this is really going to happen.  I am really going to finally be a manageable weight... for real.  Really for real.

This month I also found out a friend is going to not be beating cancer. His attitude and efforts in his life have given me a chance to reflect on mine, and I find it lacking.  I need to grab hold of the good things and make them sweeter by looking at them in a new light.

Heres a happy for me... look at all this progress!!!!

Total pounds lost overall - 59.8 (exactly the same as last month)

June was a lot of work emotionally.

Weight wise I was up down up down ARG. That is hard on a girl who has been a lifetime dieter, BUT~!!!!  BUT, the happy news is that even though I did not lose anything in terms of pounds this month, everyone that has seen me thinks that I look smaller.   So there are still changes happening.   Not on the scale (which is where it is easier and more satisfyingly measurable), but it is still happening.

I'm solidly into a normal XL. I bought a shirt off the rack at Neman Marcus his weekend (Massive sale at the off-rack store, nothing better then getting a $100+ shirt for $25.00!).

This month I did struggle with emotional eating, binging and some sabotage eating.  I didn't post a lot, and I know that I should have more. I need to document these things better so at the end of the month when it comes down to this, I can look back and see why.  I have to look back and remember, but at least there is this.

I made a significant number of poor choices and then last week had a self imposed ban on eating out. Which I managed until Friday night.

I guess the theme of June is"work in progress".

July I have my 8 month follow up with my surgery doc.  He wanted me to be at 210, which is NOT going to happen of course, but... then again. Whenever someone challenges me to do something that I , I make it a personal goal to fail and show them.  *sigh*.

I could work harder
I could eat better
I could do more

But I have not.  I have only done what I have done.  I don't know how I feel about that.  I have the desire to be an over achiever, but then the demands and rigors of life crop up and I don't make more time for these things.   Which... is how I got up to over 300lbs in the first place.

I think the one thing that I want to really work on is not eating to max capacity.  This is my worst habit. I eat until I can't (also how I got to over 300lbs).  I need to wait to feel actual hunger before eating.  Measure my food out again, and eat slower.   Perhaps these should be my goals for July.

Pounds lost in May: 4.4
Pounds lost overall: 59.8

May has been an interesting month. I started it out with an injury and a massive up/down and stalling out.  Mid-month, I was feeling better and made a BIG change in the amount of water that I was getting in a day.  This really helped turn this month around in terms of losing weight, and honestly – feeling better.  I did a really bad job of water yesterday – so todays “up” weigh in was not too big a surprise to me.  But, I know I’m on track right now, and that’s a good feeling.  Very positive!!

I’m still plagued with hip/groin issues.  I fly out to WI for work tonight and am back on Monday night. I’m a little scared that I might be setting myself up for a disaster if I push too hard.  So I have my foam roller packed, and my lacrosse ball – that I use to do massage on the big muscles – i.e. sitting on that ball to get my glutes and hams rubbed out from any tightness that might move back into the groin.

In terms of successes… I’ve not changed a size down yet in my clothing, but everything that I have fits much better. My XL shirts are comfortable and getting a little tiny bit loose.  I feel more comfortable in them and that is SUCCESS!  I’ll take it.  I actually shopped in 0ld Nvy and fit very nicely into the XL’s.  I can see that I’ll be a size L in there quite soon.  Exciting stuff.

I also hit my -60lbs goal this month (okay – its 59.8, but as I said in my other post – I’ll take it!).

Lackluster, is what I would use to describe this month, well, actually my efforts this month.

Honestly, this month has sucked, I’ve been sick, stressed, and overworked, HOWEVER that is no excuse for sitting on the sofa and stuffing my face while crying, which is pretty much what I’ve done all month.  All the while moaning about how hard it is to myself, my husband and on this blog. Boo fricken Hoo.

Wanting to do better and doing better are two different things.  I want to do better....before surgery I wanted to do better too… but I didn’t DO anything.  That is where I need to fix me.  Turning thought into action.

So instead of a giant post about all the things that didn't do and should do – I’m going to spend June “doing” something about it.   I want to be in the 230’s at the end of June and I AM going to make that happen.

March 2013 Recap (finally)

Okay - I have started this post 3 times, and today I'm going to do it.

Actually, its lucky that work has been so crazy, because all the first posts that I started are so bloody negative that I can't stand to even use a little bit of them.

Was March a great month? Did I pull up my socks and get on the bike?  Did I eat right all the time and not snack and have sugar for meals?

The answer to all of those is no. However, that doesn't make me a bad human being, it just makes me human. I did some of those things, for a little bit, but certainly, I have to get my ducks in a row and do them all.

The sleeve is a tool, and if I want to use that tool, its there for me.  OR, I can go against the tool, make life uncomfortable (physically and emotionally every morning on the scale) and generally fight against the flow for all its worth... then complain bitterly when it doesn't work out. Yeah... that's the ticket.

So, that was March.  I had a bad Feb. Complained about that. Didn't make ANY changes, in fact, I did worse.  Then I wanted to complain about that.  Brilliant!!

Today, I'm feeling more positive.  Last night I had a little come to jebuz meeting with myself and here we are today.

Okay - the numbers:

Pounds lost in March: 3.6

March 9 - 248

March 11 - 248.4
March 12 - 249.4
March 13 - 249.2
March 14 - 249.2
March 15 - 249.6
March 16 - 249.8
March 17 - 249.8
March 18 - 247.6
March 19 - 248.4
March 20 - 248.2
March 21 - 247.6

March 27 - 246
March 28 - 246.2
March 29 - 246.4
March 30 - 246.6
March 31 - 247.4

Despite the upswing in the bottom of the month, I did manage to hit another goal weigh of -55lbs.  It was only for a day, but I'm confident that I'll be getting back there soon.

Today I started taking pictures of the food I am eating (will post those later), and frankly it has increased my awareness of what was going in by 100%.  Also, it has made me start listening to my fullness level and sort of jarred me awake to what I've been putting in my mouth.  I had lunch and started some sweet-seeking behaviors... but then I realized, that I was actually full.

It's been an eye opener for the day.  Here's to a better April.

February 2013 Recap (GOAL!!!)

February, the longest-shortest month of the year.

It was a really hard one for me. Really hard. If I could sum this month up in a word, that word is STRESS.  However As of TODAY....

I finally hit my next major milestone. -50lbs!!   *SOUNDS THE TRUMPETS*

Weigh In this morning was 251lbs.  This means that I ended Feb just like I did in Jan – with another new low.  YAY!   That has put the happy back in my step after a long and horrible month.

The numbers:
Jan 31 - 253.2
Feb 1 - 252.8
Feb 2 - 253.8
Feb 3 - 253.6
Feb 4 - 252.8
Feb 5 - 252.4
Feb 6 - 252.6
Feb 7 - 252.8
Feb 8 - 252.2
Feb 9 - 252.2
Feb 10 - 252.4
Feb 11 - 253.8
Feb 12 - 253.4
Feb 13 - 253.8
Feb 14 - 252.6
Feb 15 - 252.6
Feb 16 - 252.2
Feb 18 - 252.0
Feb 19 - 251.4
Feb 20 - 251.4
Feb 21 - 252.2
Feb 22 - 252.2
Feb 25 - 252.6
Feb 26 - 252.8
Feb 27 - 251.8
Feb 28 – 251.0

Pounds lost in Feb – 2.2
Pounds lost Overall – 50

While I’m not particularly impressed with my numbers this month -  2.2lbs is more along the lines of what I have lost in a week.  I’m still pleased that I did it. It was difficult to stay positive, and to keep going, but I did.

I went to yoga last night, I didn’t want to, I had a million excuses that I let roll around as I got changed, grabbed water and got in the car.  It was hard, but I need to keep at it.  Its good practice to make myself do something that I don’t want to.

February has been a month of struggles, so I guess it taught me that I can make it though anything if I take it a step at a time!

Fraking WOW!!!! I AM SO HAPPY!  Here is the graph. I had some major up and downs, but as I keep going I'm learning to take them for what they are - reminders to drink more water and eat better foods!

I hit a big milestone this month - losing 45lbs.  People at work are starting to really take note and a few of them are asking me about it.  Which can get uncomfortable, but I tell them all the same stuff.
  1.  stop drinking with your meals
  2.  measure everything you eat
  3.  count your calories
  4.  get moving
  5.  drink more water
It's all the stuff that I'm doing, without me disclosing that I have had surgical assistance with portion sizes.

I am nearly out of my plus sized cloths for good. Today I bought a dress today at J.Jill in XL and there was room in it.  It was NOT stretched to its maximum structural capacity that bordered on obscene.  This dress actually fits and looks great.  I will get some spanxy-things to help with the lumpies, but I'm really pleased and feeling even... *gasp* inspired.

I keep saying that I'm going to get on my bike in the mornings and this has NOT happened yet.  February is my month. Its going to happen.

December Recap

December has come and gone in a flash!

I've had some great moments in December.   I hit my goal of 40lbs lost and I lost a total of 5lbs this month.  Not my best effort, there was a lot of snacking on Christmasy type treats and sweets.

Total lost in December: 5lbs
Total lost: 40.8lbs

This month has had a LOT of up and down, and not much in the way of down in the second half of the month.  I'm trying to not worry about it too much, because there is a lot of great stuff that happened as well as the holidays.

Yesterday I had a tough moment that I've been stewing on.  One of the few people that I've told about my surgery made a pointed comment. I think she is trying to encourage and be supportive, but its really hit me in the guts.

I told her that I had lost 5-6lbs this month, to which she replied,  "that's not enough, I lost that with just exercise this month".

Ouch.

I think it hurts because its mostly true.  This month is not great. I can try harder: I have not been tracking food, I have been sitting around, I have not been getting enough water... I need to change those things.  But I'm also struggling with being HAPPY about 5lbs.  I mean. I would have been lucky to have gained ONLY 5 over Christmas before.  So I don't know, ug. This is not how I wanted to close out the year.

5lbs is 1.25lbs a week - I would like to think that is pretty stellar progress - slow, steady, nothing too crazy.  However, 2013 I do HAVE TO start back biking, my morning exercise is needed, for many reason!  Fitness, mental health and physical condition.

November Recap

November has been a fantastic month for many things!

Firstly, I hit 2 goal weights. -10% body weight and -35lbs.

Secondly, it was an exceptional month of learning:

The begining of the month was painfully slow and up/down with my weight.   I had a couple of crisis moments thinking that I had already stopped losing and this was it.   But I kept my focus, didn't get out of control (i.e.: ice cream eating and crying about being fat), and then mid way through the month, I started seeing the numbers heading down.  This can be attributed mostly to the magic elixir water.

Its a process, I have to keep on it.  Which can be hard for someone who was a yo-yo dieter and a habitual start-quit-restart'er.

Here are the November numbers:

Oct 31 - 271.8
Nov 1 - 271.6
Nov 2 - 272
Nov 3 - 271 (down 10% body weight -30lbs!!)
Nov 4 - 270.8
Nov 5 - 270
Nov 6 - 270.6
Nov 7 - 270.8
Nov 8 - 271.4
Nov 9 - 270.8
Nov 10 - 271
Nov 11 - 271
Nov 12 - 271
Nov 13 - 270
Nov 14 - 270.6
Nov 15 - 269.4 (1 month)
Nov 16 - 270.8
Nov 17 - 270.6
Nov 18 - 269.6
Nov 19 - 269.4
Nov 20 - 268.4
Nov 21 - 268.6
Nov 22 - 267.8
Nov 25 - 266.8
Nov 26 - 267.6
Nov 27 - 266.8
Nov 28 - 265.2
Nov 29 - 264.8 (-35lb goal!!)
Nov 30 - 265.2

Total lost in November: 6.6lbs
Total lost: 35.8lbs

Which leads me to my next discovery... I can't do math.   -35lb goal was at 266lbs, not 265lbs.  Okay - its a single pound, so not that big a deal, but... way to go mathlete!  :)

All in all a great month. I'm looking forward to some similar progress in the months to come.
