2012 - I had Vertical Sleeve Gastric Surgery in October 2012, and this is my journey to push the fat girl aside and start living life without fear of lawn chairs, the middle seat, clothing shops and high heels. Among other things.

2017 - I'm preop for the Duodenal Switch procedure for my sleeve to help me get to goal weight....and to fix another hiatal hernia.

I had a date this morning

With my bike!!! Best investment ever (besides my VSG surgery that is).

I did a nice easy 17 min ride on level 4. Just wanted to ease my way back into some exercise (though I do an exceptional amount of stairs everyday, since we live in a three story townhome. It's a lot of up and down!).

Food was good over the weekend, I'm averaging 1,000 - 1,200 a day now. My protein intake has been excellent, typically over 75g a day!! I was really pleased to eat out and not lose control. This surgery has really changed my life. I feel like a burden has been lifted. The weight of constantly struggling against my compulsion and hunger for food has been removed.

Not feeling "starving" and the knowing that I can't overeat are really liberating feelings. thinking about food has halved, I'm not imagining where, when, what, and how much I can get to eat. Those used to be all consuming thoughts.

This mornings weigh in was: 270.0

I know that I keep saying this, but every morning I think "this is it, the gaining has to start". I can't believe that I'll be in the 260's his week!!!! The last time I was that weight was 2007. 5 fraking years ago!!!!!!!! Wow!

:) today is a happy Monday!

Liebster Award

YAY!  My first award!  Thanks Karen at Super Snails Pace! Or Super Snail Space as I like to read it! teehee

She nominated me with the Liebster Award.  I had to look up what liebster is, cause thats the kind of nerd I am.  It's German, and is a term for a beloved, sweetheart. Term of endearment. Oh, also "Favorite"! Well, isn't that sweet!  :)

Okay, so award comes with 11 facts about me, 11 questions from Karen, and then I nominate 5 people for the award with 11 questions of my own. Frankly, I don't really know 5 bloggers well enough to nominate them, so I'll post my questions below, and if you want to answer them in the comments, I would be really really pleased!

11 Facts about me:
  1. I have a mini rib - bottom right side. Its less then half the length of the same one on the left! I call it Adam.
  2. I've broken many many bones. The running total now is at 9. Last one was in 2003, so knock on wood!
  3. I'm a Canadian, living in the US as a Permanent Resident Alien! On the final approval of all my paperwork (2 years later) we had an alien party and everyone had to wear tinfoil hats.
  4. I haven't had cable tv in 9 years. I lived without tv for 5 of those 9. Husbeast needed a tv though, so I caved.
  5. I read everyday. I typically read at least one book a week and have 2-4 on the go at the same time. Love sci-fi, fantasy, zombie, post apocalyptic fiction, but I read other stuff too.  I just finished, The Economist Goes to Lunch. Very interesting! Karen, we are going to have to trade notes on what you and I are reading!
  6. I grew up on a dairy farm, so I LOVE me some milk and milk products!!
  7. I have a bunch of tattoos, most are easily hidden.
  8. I have one brother.
  9. I'm terrible at math.
  10. I have size 10.5 - 11 feet.  I love shopping for shoes in the US! I could never find size 11's in Canada.
  11. I'm looking forward to being a "normal" sized human being.

Karen's 11 Questions to me:
  1. What careers did you consider before the one you are in currently?
    Farrier and Teacher.
Those are the two that I can remember thinking about doing as a career. As a middle aged person (from my late teens to early 30's) I never really wanted a career, and just travels and pretended like that could be my life. Of course now, I wish that I had finished university and had a career instead of a job.  Such is life,  I do good work, it pays okay, and I don't hate it.

  2. What were you most afraid of as a child?  What are you most afraid of now?
As a child - The Dark!  As an Adult - Spiders in the Dark!!!!!!

  3. What type of music do you enjoy?
Almost all types! Lately I've been listening to a lot of Blues, got turned onto it by a great song, Nasty Letter by Otis Taylor. However, I've got 60's, 70's, 80's 90's rock in my car, as well as dance music, some metal and the current top 40 hit radio stuff. Pretty eclectic.

  4. What is different about your life today that you never would have predicted 10 years ago?
I'm married and don't want kids.

  5. Do you watch any sports on TV? Which ones?
Nope.  I used to watch a lot of rugby, but in North America that is on limited offer for tv.  Plus, we don't have cable (by choice), so I mostly watch movies and documentaries on netflix.

  6. What was your most favorite vacation?
    Iceland 2012!

  7. Star Wars or Star Trek?
.... you are a hard ass Karen, I'm going to have a hard time picking. Original movies - Star Wars, New movies - Star Trek.

  8. What is the last movie you saw in a theater?
    The newest Batman. Pretty good.

  9. Do you wear a watch? If you don’t, why not?
Nope, I can't actually.  Ever since I started trying, a watch that touches my skin never lasts more then three days on me before the battery is dead (insert creepy music here).

  10. What do you look forward to about the holidays? What do you dread about the holidays?
I love the decorating of the house, I dread the undecorating of the house!

  11. If you were the leader of your country (i.e. president, prime minister, etc.), what are the first changes you would make in the country’s policies?
Okay, this is a toughie for me, firstly because I'm a Canadian. Secondly, because I'm a Canadian and am fairly apathetic about politics (fairly = extremely).  So, the first thing that I would do in the USA is get rid of the insurance system that keeps Americans from getting heath care that is actually care, and instate the kind of system that is up in Canada, the UK etc.  It's the one thing that really chaps my ass down here.
Okay!  That's likely a lot more than anyone really wanted to know about me, my ribs, my feet, or my politics! haha  But Karen, thank you again!   I'm really looking forward to watching you progress through your surgery and into success beyond!

My 11 questions to those that want to answer!
  1. Favorite protein source?
  2. Favorite indulgence?
  3. Cats or Dogs?
  4. Where would your ideal vacation be?
  5. What is your favorite color to wear?
  6. Favorite Book?
  7. Are you a gambler?
  8. Winter Olympics or Summer Olympics?
  9. If you could have any eye color, what would it be?
  10. What is your favorite piece of jewelry (wedding rings excluded)?
  11. Who is your favorite James Bond?

Extra hour!

This morning we got up at normal time, no extra hour of sleep for me.

Today was my first meal out! Husbeast and I headed for a little diner for breakfast. Happily they have grits on the menu so I got a 2 egg scramble with ham, cheese, onions, green peppers and a side of grits! Mixed them together, very yum.

Managed to get in a little less then half. Ate nice and slow. Enjoyed myself very much! It was great to not over eat. Such a difference from before WLS.... When every time I sat down for a meal it was akin to a speed eating contest.

We spent an hour waiting on some stores to open, opps....time change...not how I wanted to spend my extra hour today, but shoes must be bought! I need to retire my sandals for winter, such that it is down here (I.e. not particularly cold).

Weigh in this morning. - 270.8

Wow. I had another moment last night where I just couldn't believe that this was really happening... There was no way that I could keep losing. Mind shift, I am going to keep losing. And tomorrow I get to start biking!!!

Down!! 10% goal!!!!

Jumped up on the old scale this morning and BOOM! 271.

I've lost 30lbs. Wow! Hit my 10% of body weight gone. Woot!

Happily, I already have a pedi planned for today. Bonus pampering for me. :) it's good to find other things to reward myself with, other than food!

Up!

finally happened!

weigh in this morning: 272

up .4 of a pound.

I'm not too bothered, but I am bothered. Eating was good today, I haven't been getting in enough water, so that's a problem. Working on that one today best I can.

Right, that's all for this post. I'm tired from heading back to work this week.  Damn, I forgot how hard riding a desk all day is!!  :)

Back in the Swing

Another day in the office, not a full day, but close.  Starting to get back into the swing of it. Tones of work to catch up on, so there will be no respite for me for a while. Plus, end of the year is coming and that always brings more work!

I ate well at the office, no moments of choking like yesterday.  I kept to really soft foods and added back in a shake to keep my protein up.

Feeling good!

There were Halloween cast off treats in the kitchen all day. I picked up one and smelled it, read the back... considered it... then put it down. I don't need that stuff.  (yay me!)

I'm over-tired right now, so tonight I need to get to bed early. I'm reading The Twelve, (Justin Cronin) and enjoying it quite a lot, so I was reading until midnight last night. 6:30 comes early!!!

So today someone said something that made me smile, "my gawd, you are half the woman you were before".  LOL   I love it!

Also, filing this one under sad but true. I had another chiro appointment yesterday and it was the first time that I was able to lay on my back and front.  When I lay down on my front my chiro said, "omg, I can see the table on either side of you now".  Wow... I used to cover the whole thing with my fat. That is sad!!!   But no longer true!!!!!

Little changes, everyday.

Right now I'm trying to work up the courage to post some pictures. Damn, thats hard.

Weigh in this morning: 271.6... the 10% goal is slowly coming into reach!
