2012 - I had Vertical Sleeve Gastric Surgery in October 2012, and this is my journey to push the fat girl aside and start living life without fear of lawn chairs, the middle seat, clothing shops and high heels. Among other things.

2017 - I'm preop for the Duodenal Switch procedure for my sleeve to help me get to goal weight....and to fix another hiatal hernia.

Easy On, Hard Off

My extended weekend of poor eating is haunting me.  Of course, we all know how hard it is to take off what so quickly went on.

Plus, the cravings. Sugar sugar sugar. ug.

I had a chiropractic appointment on Monday afternoon however and she said that there was another noticeable difference in how I look and feel to her hands.  That is worth a million weigh-ins!!

So I'm struggling with water, a constant theme for me (former soda monster), and still fighting the carb overload.  But, I'm not going to worry too hard.  I'm getting it sorted out.

Water is open and on my desk. Its going to happen today!

One Year Later!!!

One whole year later…. As of today I have lost 63.8lbs.  Oct 15th I was up early and waiting for surgery.  I was actually calm, collected and completed unafraid.  I wanted to wake up and be skinny, of course, that didn't happen, but.... here I am a year later and I am really very pleased with the progress that I have made.  I knew that this was not a problem that I was ever going to be able to solve on my own, and I'm glad that I finally had the balls to do something about it.

I never set a goal for time and weight loss. I didn't have the 100lbs/1year goal.  63lbs has been a transformation in itself and I know that I am still working towards a goal weight

One Year: Wow… that really REALLY went fast. Much faster than I thought that it would.

Funnily last night I was watching on TLC, my 6OOlbs life.  And although I was not 6OOlbs, I could totally relate in all ways to the experiences of the people on the show.  The before: teasing, uncomfortable, how hard everything was, walking, stairs, moving around, getting in and out of my car... crazy. The surgery and after eating: struggles, image, food, water, life.
In fact it was a great reflection on my behaviors and how I could be doing better and more for myself. I echo their sentiment – this was the best thing that I ever did for myself.  I still struggle with head-hunger and behavior problems and food choices, but I keep on working on it and that is the key.

I cannot believe some of the changes that have been made.  A serious transformation in a year.  Yesterday I was wearing a dress from Old Navy (XL) and it was slightly too large for me.  Mind Blown!  I wouldn’t have been able to squeeze into a XXL in OldN a year ago.  There were a LOT of things that I couldn’t do last year…..

Here is my weight chart for the year.  I took the 1st, 15th and last day of each month ad made a shortened version of my tracking.  It shows my progress pretty well.

I have a new pair of sandals that have an outside ankle side buckle.  I keep trying to do it up with one hand because "before" I wasn’t able to actually bend over and get both hands to the outside of my ankle. Not a problem anymore.  It was so strange to be able to jut bend over and reach the buckle with both hands.  Last night, just for a test, I tried to see if I could bend over and get my palms on the floor (like I could in university) and I could.  Awesome!   I’ve been taking pictures of my face lately at the office because I literally don’t recognize myself.  I stare at the photos and look at this “strangers” face.

So many positive changes - SO many that I don’t even have time to write about them all today.   But this is going to be a great day of reflection and recommitment to my process of change, and to embrace it even more.
I'll have to do some pictures tonight and get a compairson journey up on here... This anniversary really snuck up on me.

Happy Anniversary to me!  I can’t wait to see what the next year brings for my weight loss journey.

Weekly Planning

First of all... Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.

Last night we had little steaks (1 had 1, husbeast had 2),  2 super-mini baked potatoes - purple! my fav with a dot of greek yogurt, and roasted cauliflower (it's on a side plate for size reference).  We also had some pumpkin cake with whip cream (no picture).  We watched the Walking Dead premier (I love me some zombies) and generally enjoyed ourselves.  No big deal, I don't have any family down here and I wanted it nice and low key anyway.  Have just noted the general lack of greens in this dinner.

Its sideways...not sure why. But its Monday, so...that makes total sense.

I also prepped my lunches for the week into my little plastic "bento" style boxes:
Cucumber slices
baby carrots
Lite Moz string cheese stick
Thin Triskets

3/4c Cottage cheese & pineapple cup
Coffee x2

greek yogurt w/ almonds

I've already talked myself out of Starbucks today... because typically I tell myself its just for the coffee and then I get a pastry as well.. you know, because I'm there.  So today. No.

I've got a busy week coming up.  So  know the more planning I do the better.  I had a big grocery shop this weekend as well - stocked up on easy simple foods that I like ... so that I'm not temped to eat out this week.   That is key for me... if making food at home is too time consuming... then I just don't do it.

I'm very pleased with my weight this month, so I want to keep on the roll.   236.4 is an all new low for me.  Its nice to see that number again. 236.6 in July was the last one.   Water, eating at home, walking more, feeling positive.   Staying on it.

I think that Fall has a little something to do with it. The weather here is getting slightly cooler... for Houston that's still outrageously hot for anywhere north of the lone star state (80's).   Regardless, I'm happy to be making better choices on a more regular basis.

Also - should be noed for my own purposes that my peiod startd today and I think that there is a trend with my cycle that I might want to try and pay better attention to.

That is all!

Dog walking over Dinner date

Last weekend I helped a friend out with some house stuff.

She said that she would take me to dinner as thanks.  I suggested we do dog walking instead, because... I don't need dinner!!  So, last night I went and we walked all their permanent and foster dogs (6) and my dog and got some good chatting out of the way.

I had fun
She had fun
Dogs had fun

Total win all the way around.  Small choices making big differences.

My legs are feeling that slght bit of tired today. Feels good!

Water - still not getting enough of that in me,but I'm working on it.

I've totally dropped off my pushup and sit ups. I HAVE TO GET BACK AT IT.  Ug. I need a sticky note or something.

I did NOT get enough water in yesterday!!!

I could feel it in my fingers today and my weight is up a little as well, so I need to get on the water again!

I did get my teeth cleaned, manage to get a lot of work done at the office and eat pretty well!!

The husband made an awesome scramble last night for dinner: roasted peblano pepper, red onion, a little queso fresco with a couple slices of avocado.

I have my lunch packed again today (hummus, cucumber, rice crackers, cottage cheese, fresh fruit, yogurt).  Had an Ensure for breakfast so am up on the protein today already and feeling good.

Much Better

Nice easy slow day of eating and I didn't cramp up and I didn't throw up.  Success!

I also did a little bit of gardening when I got home, as the air ducts were getting cleaned out.  I can feel the difference in the air in the house already. Yay!

Nothing else to report other than, feeling good, eating noticably smaller quantities and still being thoughful at the moment.

Weekend Work

Lots to report on in my WLS learning scale.

Friday night was the anniversary and we went out for the most Canadian (me) and American (hubby) food that we could find.  Poutine and fried pig ears.  In retrospect, that's silly and ....even though these were both just appy's, it was TOO much grease.  Plus I had a little bit of beer.

I suffered for it as well. I had something like a stuck episode that night, bloating, vomiting, pain and gas.... I'm starting to think it might be gallstones.  (Another f**king thing to add to the list of getting older. Arg. ).

Anyway, that night I wandered around suffering, took some gasex and finally puking until I felt better.  Fun anniversary.

The next morning I got up, ate 3 spoonfuls of greek yogurt and promptly felt exactly the same.

That was it.  Husband went out and get me some mint tea and I spent the rest of the day laying on the sofa and reconsidering my eating habits.  Either its gallstones or its inflamed stomach from there days of abuse.

I'm thinking its more the abuse.  I had tea, soft peaches, and soup.  Sunday I took it easy as well.  Smaller portions and gentle foods and this week is going to be more of the same.

Ensure for breakfast, lots more slow eating and better chewing. More water, more care, more thought.

Three days of bent over the toilette was enough I guess!!

Green Peppers, Chewing and Such

I am a wolfer.

It was a problem before, its a problem now. The only difference now, is that I can get into real trouble with it if I don't chew things well.

Sounds like a plan!

It came into play yesterday.  Distracted eating leads to old habits.

Yesterday lunch was 1 mini chicken skewer, one mini steak skewer, 1 pita and some hummus.  However, I was eating while I worked, and didn't use a fork/knife. I just ripped off bits of meat from the skewers with my pita and popped them in my mouth.  If I managed three chews on each mouthful, I would be surprised.

However, somethings are a LOT harder on me to digest. Specifically... green peppers.  Those little guys are really hard to digest, and I know that and its happened before and once before that too on some Green Apple

Getting food stuck in my stomach hole is really REALLY unhappy. I walk around the house, unable to get comfortable and alternating between drinking water and forcing myself to throw up to unclog it.  Happiliy it took most of the day to get to this point, so I finished work, went home and then had to work it out, instead of at the office, which would have been HORRIBLE!

This time it took over an hour of retching to get it out. When it finally happened and there was a goodly sized chunk of unchewed green pepper floating in the bowl.   Nice work girl, way to make life hard on yourself.

I suppose this is what it is teaching me.  Slowly albeit.

I don't know this for certain, but I'm willing to surmise: Smaller stomach = less digestive juices & less room to move the food around in to get it all good and digested.

I don't think about that typically, and in general have been eating well past discomfort for months.

Anyway, lesson learned. Or, lesson learned for now!  I know I'll slip up again (I'm human) but I hope that this is one more step closer to re-learning how to eat.

I just threw out the last 3/4 of my breakfast this morning. I'm full. That's what this is all about. Victory is Mine!

Gadets and stuff

I can not add  text gadget/widget or whatever to the side - where I typically track my weight. It will let me add other ones.  This is very strange.  If anyone knows where I should look for help/bug fix... most appreciated.

I tested it with the "You're Awesome" Lincoln picture ... I like it so much I'm going to leave it up for a while!! ha ha!

Getting to bed earlier is hard, but I'm getting on it.  I slept okay last nigt, got up and almost forgot my pushups and crunches... but I didn't!

Our second official mortgage payment came out yesterday, and the panic set in.  We spend way too much money eating out (another reason for the stall?! yes... I think so).  So we have been doing better, we had roasted squash and ground turkey on Monday night, and last night we had spicy turkey sausage and raosted cauliflower.

I LOVE "fall" veggies and cooking. I could have roasted veg every day!  The way we are going, we just might.

I had a protein pancake for breakfast with a bit o' peanut butter, and a brought lunch: cottage chese, dole pears, blackpepper shaved turkey lunch meat, lite moz cheese sticks, yogurt, apple.  Its going to be a good day.

morning goal today

I really really DID NOT want to get up and do any pushups or crunches, but I did.

Not many, but that is not the point. The point is that the 10 pushups that I did are 10 more then the ones that I didn't want to do.

My status side-bar won't let me update it. Not from the computer nor from the blogger ap. Not yesterday, and not today. Annoying.
