2012 - I had Vertical Sleeve Gastric Surgery in October 2012, and this is my journey to push the fat girl aside and start living life without fear of lawn chairs, the middle seat, clothing shops and high heels. Among other things.

2017 - I'm preop for the Duodenal Switch procedure for my sleeve to help me get to goal weight....and to fix another hiatal hernia.

Weekend Catch Up

Phew, its been a long week. 

Taking sick time is great for recovering, but it leaves a 2 day backlog of work at the office that I have to try and struggle out from under.  But, such is the life of the workerbee, and its good for job security.

I'm still just a little under 100% well. However, I was going to let that stop me from working out on Saturday... THEN I DIDNT.   I went and did my weights workout and my legs and mind are thanking me. Ah, so much better being active.

Also - had a nice NSV too boot.  Its been cold here in Houston (Don't hate me - cold for Houston - like 45), so I pulled out a long sleeve dry weave shirt from the hardly-used drawer.  Its a shirt I got playing with a sports team... 10 YEARS ago (pack rat much!). It was a championship shirt, so I've been keeping it.

Welp, I threw that puppy on AND IT FIT!!!!!!!  gawds damn that made me happy.

Doing the up-down dance, so now to start kicking my workouts (and water drinking) into gear again. Hello bike... nice to see you again.

The sun is out

and I'm feeling great today.

Very pleased with that.  Eating better and getting my fluids...who would have thought that works...right?  :)

I had my weights workout last night and it was great. I was telling my workout partner how amazingly different I feel moving now that I have lost nearly 50lbs.  Its wonderful.

Side note: I was getting ready to leave last night and caught a side glance of myself in the mirror and almost didn't recognize myself. I'm getting a jawline.  WOOT!!!!

Weights:
front squats 3 x 5 reps of the bar (45lbs)
Bench press 3 x 5 reps (60 x 1 set, 80 x 2 sets)
1 arm bent over dumbbell rows 3 x 8 reps (30lbs dbell)

Happiness!!

I'm on a three day "vacation" starting this morning.  Really, its a three day organizing extravaganza for me:
  1. We are having our town home exterior washed - special thingy they do for stucco. 
  2. Related to first item, we are going to be listing our home for sale in a few weeks, so I'm prepping for that - de-cluttering, packing, throwing out the junk and getting in a base cleaning. 
  3. Tax season is upon us, and as a foreign national I have a LOT more sh*t to get done for this (*pout*).  We have a monstrous amount of medical bills this year.  Husband has 2 knee surgeries, I had mine, plus all the little stuff. So I have to get that stuff prepped.
  4. Women's World 7's Rugby is being held in Houston this week - Friday and Saturday. I'm excited to have a couple friends coming into town to visit and go to the games.
So, really...its not a vacation although I was at Starbucks in my pj's this morning after dropping off the Husbeast at the office, so I can't really complain too much!

tired

Ug, I've not been getting enough sleep at all this last week.  Last night I was up until almost 1am and up at 6:30.  This will not due.

Weigh in this morning: 255.4

Yesterday I didn't get in enough water at all.  However, I did get in a weights session and it felt great! 

Front squats - 3 sets x 5 reps (45lbs - just the bar)
Bench press - 3 sets 5 reps (1x 65, 2x 75)
1 Arm dumbbell rows - 3 sets each arm x 5 reps (30lbs)

Very pleased!

Came home and caught up on Biggest Loser on hulu, I'm feeling kind of sad this season. It kind of feels like finally, its a gameshow (as it really is) and even though they are doing some great stuff with the kids, I get the feeling that it really isn't about helping these people.  Or perhaps, these people are just not thriving like in previous seasons. 

Ah well - I know that I'll keep watching... this season is going to be a lot less crying and eating icecream while I do it though!!

Back at it!

It's been a busy week already at the office, I've been going flat out!

After Monday mornings awesome weigh in I totally didn't drink enough water for the last 2 days, AND yesterdays food was like...almost 70% cookies. 

Jeez already. I have such up and downs... I'm so good, water, water, water.... then, brain fart.  

Anyway, I'm back on it today, and I need it... because!!!!!    yesterday I had my first real workout back in after surgery.

40min walk
front squats - 3 sets 5 reps - just the bar (45lbs)
bench press - 3 sets 5 reps - 65lbs
light stretching

I'm feeling the work in my legs today. Everything is sore and tired, which actually is a nice feeling. But it does mean I'm going to have to work really hard on my water to help flush all that lactic acid out of my poor weak muscles!!

Short Weeks!

We are off from work this week on Thursday and Friday! HURRAY!

My only real disappointment is that I'm on rest for my back. No Pushing, pulling or lifting. Which means I won't get in my biking or weights this week.  Damn. 

We are having an orphans, widows and outcasts Thanksgiving with friends on Thursday. It should be super fun.   I'm excited, it will be my first big food outing with people that don't know I've had surgery, so eating slowly and talking lots (shouldn't be a problem), will get me through.

Friday the Husbeast has to work, so I'm going to have a crafty day with a friend. Get some xmas decorating done, and some little sewing projects.

I'm heading up to the Great White North in early December to see a girlfriend that I've not visited in almost 2 years. Her kids are getting to big, I have to go and see them all before they are magically teens!  This also means that I have to get my sh!t together so that once I'm up there I can send the rest of the family their Christmas gifts. WAY better then paying to mail them across the border.

I'm going to put on my thinking cap for this one.

Its been a LONG time since I've seen that number. LONG TIME.  Like, I can't remember time. 

I'm heading downwards, and making good choices.  I had a little trouble with dinner last night. Brown rice spicy salmon sushi.   I think it was the rice.  So next time I'll take it slower, and do a couple of checks on if I should eat more or not.

Also.... WATER WATER WATER

Tonights indulgence.... The Walking Dead. Missed it Sunday, tonight I get to see what is going on!!!

Hump Day

Wednesday - Hump day.   I really feel like I need to get over this hump of the 271's.   Blarg.

Weigh In this morning: 270.6.   up again a little.   I'm trying to focus on the overall trend, but its hard. 

Squats and benchpress last night. I could feel my abs were weak and sore still from surgery. I have a couple of light exercises to try out and get them firing again.  The rest of the workout was good - my back is a little sore today.  Thankfully I have a chiro appointment at lunch today, so that should work out all the kinks.

I just finished my bike this morning. 5.26miles, 175calories burned, 25min done.  I pushed a little harder today, and started at level 5 for 5min, then 6 for 5min, then 7 until the last min... back down to 5.

Time for a shower and to head to the office, but before that. Here is today's meal plan:

YES!

Well , I must have had more water yesterday then I thought.  Had a good morning movement, and my weight is down! FINALLY!

Weight in - 270lbs

YAY!

I finally picked up the extra pants that my friend has shrunk out of.  All of them are size 18 and 20 (She is now down to a 14).

They looked... IMPOSSIBLY small.  The mind plays such tricks.  All the 20's fit well, apart from one pair of jeans.  The dress pants are 18's and all have some spandex in them, so they do up, and look good in the leg, but are a little tight in the middle.

By a little tight in the middle, I mean - how all my pants use to fit on me when they were stretchy and size 24. 

Unbelievable. It was hard to imagine pants that look like that going around me. But they did. 

Today was a non-bike day.  I have a weight session tonight, squats and I think that I'm going to give some bench press a shot as well.   See how the abs are healing up and flexing.

I'm frustrated. BUT... I know that I am doing the right stuff. I need to keep drinking my water and not try to get crazy with the calorie cutting, keep getting my protein in and keep working out

It IS going to happen.  Of course the irrational part of my brain is going CRAZY! gaining gaining gaining... its going to happen. So, I'm trying to keep it quiet and just go about my day.

Okay, calories are good, but I am eating too much fat and carbs.   Need to get in some more proteins, and since I'm still on soft foods, that means I need to get in some more shakes. This week I've backed off from them, and that might be an area that would help me make some improvements.

Okay, I'm already feeling a little better. I've lost 30lbs in 3 weeks. My poor body hasn't done anything that momentous for a decade, so I'm going to give it a break!  :) 

Today I have a light squat session at 11:30, and I have about 3 hours of cleaning that needs to be done, as well as grocery shopping, and maybe, a hair cut. 

So time to get to it!

Water

The last two days I've noticed that I dropped off on my water drinking.

I forgot what its like being tied to a desk and not having water next to me. It NEVER crosses my mind when I get up, to take my bottle and refill. That is going to have to change, I'm going to have to get it done first thing in the mornings, so that I have it on hand to sip away at all day.

I'm slightly dehydrated I think, so need to step it up. Especially since I think its the main reason that I was up this morning in weight.

So, I've been trying this evening to get the water in!

Food has been going well - I have been eating too fast, I need to put the fork down between bites and be more aware of my eating habits.  I've struggled with my salmon, and last night I had to stand for a while and walk around until the discomfort passed.

Learnings hard!

I had my first session back lifting weights. I just did my front squats with the bar (45lbs).  My gawds, the difference in my mobility is amazing without my massive gut in the way.  Felt solid.  Just did 3 sets of 5 squats.  I could already feel it after that.  Tomorrow morning is another date with my bike.  30mins this time. Need to get going and help my body get rid of the fat.

Tomorrow is my first support group meeting for WLS people! I'm looking forward to it actually. Its going to be different, and I hope that its insirational, informative and that I get to meet some nice people.
